1872 Veterans go head-to-head; Three Terriers lined-up for Holiday Season

Fans of the Victorian marvels are in for a treat this Christmas/New Year as no less than three Terriers are lined up to see service over the holiday week

WSR are reporting that “Martello”, which remained at Minehead after its feature appearance at the ever-popular Autumn Gala, is scheduled to be in steam for their mid-winter event on Saturday 29th December

Meanwhile further east on more traditional Terrier territory, the two surviving 1872 veterans are currently scheduled to compete against each other in an effort to attract the post-Christmas traffic.  Or rather to provide a good reason to arrange a visit to both heritage lines before the turn of the year

Charity No. 1050480

In the Marsh Umber livery, with its fake duplicate number of 672, “Fenchurch” looks set to wow visitors hauling appropriately antique stock on Bluebell, along with the recently restored SECR C-class 592 that features a rare spare replacement boiler whilst down at Tenterden, Rother Valley Blue liveried No.3 “Bodiam” is set to be the rostered engine on the B-set although coaching stock is yet to be confirmed

With “Stepney” additionally scheduled to be steamed at Sheffield Park for the Santa Special season, this will mean that all of the workable Terriers are lined up for service this December, not bad for a class of locomotives that heritage lines are increasing finding difficult to roster on suitable public turns
