Tubes removed from 32678 for boiler inspection
Terrier Trust Chair Brian
Heyes reports that the tubes have recently been removed from
32678; obviously some were rather thin but their general
condition looked quite good, indicative of the success of
water treatment at Rolvenden to the notoriously hard water
in the south-east. We now await the findings
of the boiler inspection of the inside of the engine to see
if a further year’s use can occur on the current 10-year
ticket
K&ESR Engineering Manager Paul Wilson
states that 32678 saw use after Christmas on 27-28-29.
Class 2 operation is scheduled for the start of the new season
proper on March 17 and 18, the latter being Mothering Sunday
as well as the following Saturday, March 25
Although Easter itself is shown as a
Red timetable period, two Class 5 are likely on Easter Day
and the Bank Holiday; Class 2 operation is only a possibility
on Good Friday and Saturday. After that, the next opportunity to see small
engines working on K&ESR will be the Colonel Stephens Weekend
at the beginning of May
Further updates on the condition of both Terriers will follow
throughout the rest of the winter and early spring
