Terriers prepare for seasonal finales

It looks likely that the last public solo workings for both No.3 “Bodiam” and 32678 in 2010 may well occur in October.
At the time of writing it is understood that the 1872 veteran will work the Vintage train at 11.45am and 2.20pm from Tenterden Town during the annual Folk Festival weekend on the 2nd and 3rd.

This weekend should also be the final hurrah for the Vintage train itself for the season, though with the K&ESR AGM being held on the 9th in Northiam, there is a possibility steam may yet replace the DMMU.

With some boiler work lined up this winter, 32678 looks likely to bow out, as she did in 2009, with a charter.  Last year it was the Sentimental Journeys BR-mixed train event for the contributors to the painting fund for both the “birdcage” and the SR-brake; this year it is the turn of The Terrier Trust with a function to help replenish funds used to finance the pattern and new chimney for “Bodiam”.

Characteristically for the K&ESR, it looks at the moment as if participation will be somewhat below capacity, but at least this will add to the bumbling ambiance of the Terrier and “birdcage” weaving its way across and beside the Rother Levels.

There is still time to join this nearly unique railway adventure on Saturday October 23rd by sending an email to terrier.trust@ntlworld.com but please don’t delay on what should prove a memorable day even if the weather fails to cooperate entirely.
