Status of Locomotives - July 2007

Engineering Manager Paul Wilson has provided TTT with an update concerning the engines

No.3 “Bodiam” has so far provided excellent service this year.  There was a crack in the chimney at the base, facing the cab, extending upwards about five or six inches.  This has been professionally repaired

32678 underwent an hydraulic test following the replacement of the tubes but unfortunately one of the tubes leaked.  This is thought to be either a pin hole or a split.  Both the Boiler Inspector and the supplier are involved with the matter with the former due to attend shortly to assess the situation

Charity No. 1050480

Obviously the situation regarding 32678 is extremely sad especially coming off the back of its tube problems last year that led to limited use and the cancellation of all proposed photographic charters on the Bluebell last November.  On a more positive note, No.3 saluted the passing of Le Tour de France at Cranbrook Road level crossing with the Vintage Train on Sunday 08 July.  A separate item has been written for the articles section.  The engine is scheduled for RXD duties until the main school holidays, during which it should see some work with the Vintage Train subject to operational requirements
