BODIAM

32670 Bodiam will be returned to service hopefully later this year as No. 3 in Rother Valley Railway blue livery, thereby recreating the guise it first wore on the railway way back in 1901. With the main season shortly upon us, progress, as ever, depends on availability of lab our particularly once daily running commences. In summary, work continues with the pipe work. The brake reservoir has been hydraulically tested and installed, and the air-brake system is also being installed. Several people have been actively engaged in finishing the engine for service; these include:-

John Arlett who is sanding and undercoating the LH tanK
Adrian Landi who has arc-welded brackets for pipe work on top of the boiler
John Houselander carrying out work on the dome
Graham Clifford who has the task of cleaning and painting the nameplates
James Taylor (craft apprentice) has been doing various copper pipe work under the direction of Ben Swann as part of his training
Tony Pearson has been engaged in small-bore pipe work connections and unions
Nick Young has almost finished copper pipe work and unions for axle box lubrication.

KNOWLE

32678 Knowle is currently available for traffic. Presently it is having repairs carried out on a cracked handbrake stanchion. The engine is also exhibiting signs of wear after several years of use. Both the leading axle and firebox are under observation - the white metal situation being monitored in the former and several corroded rivets in the latter. Whilst no definite dates for steaming are currently to hand, it is intended Knowle, along with P-class 1556, will work several turns at weekends and in high summer on the Red timetable. These two engines are also used on the railway experience days and details of these may be found on the main K&ESR web site. With the potential of two Terriers available for service in 2006, it is hoped definite Terrier days can be publicised in advance.
