WELCOME TO THE OFFICIAL WEBSITE OF THE TERRIER TRUST

Status of Locomotives - November 2006

K&ESR Engineering Manager Paul Wilson has very kindly proved the Trust with a resume of the condition of our two locomotives.

Bodiam

Problems have continued to sideline the engine. As readers will be aware, the engine failed to make Bluebell’s Terrier/Brighton Gala earlier in the month. Much during of the proverbial “midnight oil” rectified the fault with the Driver’s side (nearside) big end, small end and piston; however at the last moment a cracked cylinder cover was discovered.

The original will be given to the pattern maker so a new one can be cast. To save on costs this will be universal rather than for a specific side, although some machining will be needed to fit.

Hopefully this will enable No.3 to have some test runs in the New Year; what odds on a spring sunshine scene of the loco on the vintage train?

32678

After all the pre-game concerns over the state of the engine, 32678 is reported to have performed without fault on Bluebell. The intention at the moment, subject to the approval of the boiler inspector, is for 32678 to be retubed. This will extend her availability to the end of 2007, after which the boiler needs its statutory 10-year lift from the frames.

Consideration is being made how to use the Trust’s fundraising free steamings in 2007 to help towards the upcoming overhaul of 32678. Proposals being considered include a Brake Vans special, a late afternoon/early evening trip to Bodiam with No.3 on the vintage set and a light railway day utilising 32678, one coach, and a few wagons to be shunted en route. Anyone wishing to give preliminary support to any of these projects or put one forward of their own is invited to contact the Trust by email.
