The Chimney Charter - Take Two
TTT are organising a second Chimney Charter in October to offset some of the cost of the pattern and casting of the new chimney for “Bodiam”.
The first attempt on Saturday January 2nd 2010, 56 years exactly after the line closed to all regular passenger traffic and north of Tenterden Town, produced some stunning images of No.3, but was poorly supported, in part due to the very icy conditions overnight.
As the original scheme, to operate 32678 with just the “birdcage”, had been scuppered by the unavailability of the Terrier, a second attempt will take place on Saturday 23rd October in a schedule to provide photographic opportunities and worked around the day’s passenger service.
If you are interested in this event, please contact the Secretary of TTT either via email to terrier.trust@ntlworld.com or in writing to 28 Manor House Drive, Kingsnorth, Ashford, Kent, TN23 3LP. Tickets cost £30 and the preferred method is by cheque. If we can fill the coach, that will cover half of the total cost of the new flue.
Indeed this may well be the last opportunity ever to witness this combination in BR livery. The sponsored “BR Red”, which the coach never carried in service, has not worn well and it will not be long before the vehicle is in need of a repaint. The members of TTT are also currently being canvassed for their opinions on future livery options; indeed it is not impossible that both Terriers will carry alternative liveries for at least part of 2011.
