Bodiam's
Resurrection Continues At Easter
It is extremely pleasing
to report, following the return to steam at last year’s All Terriers Great and Small, and
all the ensuing problems that beset the railway’s iconic
locomotive subsequently, that finally the engine seems to be
settling down.
In spite of work commitments
over the Easter weekend, I was able to see No.3 briefly at
Northiam on Bank Holiday Monday; according to Dick Dickson
who was driving that day, it was in fine fettle working the
five well-laiden Vintage carriages. Please
see a few images in the Gallery section.
The engine is due to
feature at a three-day Gala 05-07 May, with the theme of
Colonel Stephens. Details have now
been published on the main K&ESR websites. No.753,
No.23 and No.3 will be joined in service by the J15 No.65462,
making its maiden visit to Tenterden, and Terrier W8 “Freshwater” from
the Isle of Wight Railway. Formerly No.46 “Newington”,
this is, incredibly, virgin territory for the island stalwart! It
will mean that No.82 “Boxhill” in the
National Collection at York will then be the only surviving
Terrier not to have run on the K&ESR at some time in the
past. An interesting piece of trivia is that both Terriers
scheduled to be working that weekend are recipients of brand-new
boilers built by Israel Newton in the late 1990s
